Something tells me though, that the Rhoda Harp who married William isn't the same Rhoda who married James...after all there's still other Harp's in the area unaccounted for....and something else tells me that Rhoda Maxwell Harp never remarried, since it kind of looks like people have been covering up the truth all these years, even when they know the details

Analee, IBSSG It's looking to me like Rhoda, Julia, Isabella, and Amanda Harp who are obviously not James Marion's children, really are Rhoda's children and not someone else's that she took in. Rhoda's possible mother Mary (who is also grandmother to Jasper Newton Harp's wife) had several children out of wedlock. Another possible daughter of Mary's, Agnes Maxwell, had about eight children out of wedlock. It turns out that they were "mountain folk" (I've got Laurie Vaughn, a descendant of Cherubia Harp Vaughn to thank for getting me to look into it) with that pattern, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if all the last four children turned out to be Rhoda's. Also, I think that the James R. Harp and Linna Harp living with Rhoda in 1870 could maybe be either children of James and Mary Phillips Harp, or illegitmate children of Mary Jane Harp who was still living with Rhoda at the time ?
